I'm surprised this is never mentioned! It surley must be the biggest threat to the GAA in rural Ireland!!! Gone are the days when u will have 6/8 brothers [ or sisters] backboning the small country club, those days are gone forever. The biggest threat to the GAA, and more, in rural Ireland has always been, and still is, emigration."]100% correct It's been magnified by the economic crash All models are pointing to that situation getting worse, with outward migration to urban areas set to significantly increase I believe these factors will have a transformational impact on the current GAA structures Ireland has completely changed, and in the age of information, the world is a much smaller place with options now available to young Irish people like never before. I personally think rural living is soon going to be for wealthy urban people fleeing the city, with actual rural people fleeing the other way to the city in search of work and easier access to infrastructure / amenities That is the real danger facing the GAA over the next 25 years Ireland is in for some big change. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 18/02/2017 23:08:18 1958091 Link 0 |

Forced emigration shouldn't be a problem now but migration from rural areas into the bigger cities in pursuit of those jobs probably is.

The biggest threat to the GAA is inept county boards and little support for clubs and development of underage players in schools and clubs valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1890 - 19/02/2017 10:38:45 1958159 Link 1 |
