Black card - a thought.

(Oldest Posts First)

As seen in the closing stages of the Tipp / Derry game a player was pulled down but too far away from goal to allow an equalising score.

How about awarding a penalty if there is a black card or something to that effect ???

Cynical fouls get automatically brought forward 14 yards from where they occurred. A cynical foul within the D and 21 should be a penalty.

Yellow card and get rid of the black card.

Slightly off topic here but I spotted a bit of a refereeing booboo in the Roscommon Clare game.

A Ros forward (can't remember who) took a shot from the 21 out towards the right sideline in the 2nd half.
He was fouled as he kicked.
The ball landed pretty much on the 21 and to the left of the posts.

The referee gave Ros a 14yard free in front of the posts.

Now. . .given that the ball did not reach the 14 yard line, how can the referee bring it forward to the 14? Surely it was a free in front of the posts, but on the 21. . .

I am all for giving referees sympathy when making calls, and I accept that this wasn't a big call which had any bearing on the result, but it is yet another case of an "elite" referee not applying the rules correctly.

Its not the rules.....its the refs.

Too much inconsistency.

Free straight in front of the posts for cynical fouls out the field and yellow card.
Cynical fouls denying clear goalscoring opportunity should see penalty rewarded so as to retain goalscoring opportunity though offence might have been outside the large square. Also yellow card. Scrap the black cards.

Tipperary exploited the loophole. A free in front of the posts would have been a different story.

Can't agree any more.

Too many damn rules as it is.... Let them play ball like it used to be. We are destroying the game with all the stoppages and nonsense. Look at hurling and see the openness of the play, players going at the game hard and play allowed to sort itself out without as much interference as in football. Look to the great games of the seventies between Dublin and Kerry and how play was allowed to carry on through hard hits and pure football. Might as well cut the goalposts above the net and play soccer with the way things are going....
