Kildare v Westmeath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Can't say any more than awful match - it's almost like nobody wanted to get to final against Dubs - in fairness Westmeath wanted it a little more but for county players the standard of play was catastrophic - basic skills not even evident.

i only saw last 20 minutes and I got the same impression with Kildare - just didn't want to get another crushing 20+ point humiliation at the hands of the Blue Juggernaut. It's a depressing thought

Terrible game I just noticed one thing from the off the kildare manager having a pop at the officials all the time instead of organizing his players

I was in my local bookies the last couple of days and they were talking up a bet they were offering on Kildare as if they were giving away money. They had doubled the odds on a Kildare win from 1/3 to 4/6 and claimed it was a great bet!!! We all just laughed. I wouldn't back Kildare to beat Kilkenny footballers if they had a team! All these soccer style moves -- across the field, back from midfield to defence etc., anything except play direct football and attempt to score from 30 or 40 metres.

Well done Westmeath. The team who actually tried to play football won it. Kildare are a shambles and a disgrace to the county the way they approach the game. It's better that teams that approach the game like that are knocked out of the championship early.

Shocking game overall same as the Dublin/Meath game, the execution of basic skills at some stages was shocking. Gaelic football is a borefest nowadays & to think that thousands of club players have their season abandoned for games like this. If your not from a competing county on the day & you were made watch this its as close to torture as you can get, pure s#ite football.

Fair play to Westmeath but to be fair Kildare did not want to no about this game, its the first time i have ever seen a team who did not want to win a game years of really bad beating against the Dubs has left a mental scar. Based on this Kildare probably went home happy

Leinster football is awful. Well done to Westmeath, but they will be playing Division 4 football next year. It says it all about the other Leinster counties outside of Dublin.

It was very poor fare. The poor crowd added to the malaise. You'd get more excitement at mass.

To be fair to Westmeath though,it is a fine achievement to reach another Leinster final. They came up to win and did the business.Well done to the midlanders.

Even worse they played the ball slow and then after all that time they then proceeded to kick from stupid positions. It's pretty poor fare in Leinster nowadays.

I'm very bored here now is the only reason I'm commenting on the game. It's pretty appropriate that there've only been 10 posts on it.

When you see Westmeath in a Leinster final 2 years running it says all you need to know about the standard at the minute. A Division 4 team. Take Dublin out and Leinster is terrible

Ah come on Kildare wtf is going on? Honestly think it's mental more than physical at this stage with Kildare cause they are a better team than Westmeath I don't care what anyone says they are. I honestly think they need to get rid of all the old guard cause their heads are gone , how could you give up a six point lead to this average Westmeath team? This is rock bottom for Kildare football.

WM have timed their fitness very well

Once again WM look in peak condition for this time of year

Another great come back.. maybe not as dramatic as 2015

But a great come back all the same... they took some lovely scores over that period and the goal came from an excellent team move

Kildare to their credit never gave up and for me.. there's a fair few refs that would have given that goal yesterday!

Kildare a little unlucky at the end.. but WM were still well worth their win

League and championship are 2 totally separate things as Westmeath have proven over the last 2 years. While the game yesterday was very poor fair play to Westmeath for reaching back to back Leinster finals for the first time in their history. In response to Jim shorts what have Cavan achieved at senior level in the last few years

Why do teams try so hard in the league? Why not rest players during the league and try out new players. Let players train with their clubs. Teams might drop a division or two but as Westmeath have proven it makes no difference come the championship. Westmeath are a division 4 team and are in the Leinster Final.

Yes in another Leinster, but it wasn't the toughest path to a Leinster final same as last year. Louth who were playing Division 4 this year and Kildare who were in Division 3, and beaten by Clare in the final.
