How was he rated/seen outside of Meath?

Your best player never to win Sam?

Always the number 1 or 2 forward we've had every year for 8 years. If we'd one or two more like him we'd have won a lot more. Happy retirement and thanks for all the years.

Never got my head around the hype.

Decent at best but nowhere near the great players of even the last 10 years.

Always thought he was a good player and could take a score very well.
Lacked the supporting cast.

Good player.

Always Meath's best forward in the last few years. Probably the only Meath player that, as a Dub, you'd worry about coming into games between us.

A really fine player and an even nicer guy. Always performed against the Dubs and if Meath could find a few of similar ilk they could start to become a force again. Owes nothing to his county.

Solid player. Could do with a couple of his type in Mayo.
Good luck with the retirement Brayer

In fairness you did call Stephen Bray a "serious footballer" in the past, why the relegation to "decent at best"?

Incredible balance and poise whilst in possession. Had a great ability to shield the ball from the tackler and kick under pressure. One of the most naturally two footed players I ever saw. Probably never got a big season of games to copper fasten a legacy. Would have made Meath teams of any era.

Great footballer on a poor team. Could have achieved more accolades had he a stronger team around him...particularly in the last 3 or 4 years.

A great player on his day, and i had suggested over this and last year that he be used more as impact sub rather than starter (in particular in league) i feel this day could have been further away if those tactics were employed, had his best year for awhile in Meath jersey this year.
Best wishes Stephen thanks for the memories, in particular 07/09/10. Unfortunately never got the Celtic cross he deserved.
This had been muted when cb backed mod, however i was hoping he would give it another year.
You owe the county nothing.

On his day he could destroy anyone and on his other day he could stink the place out. You knew after 5 minutes if he was going to run amok or do nothing at all. On his good days he was as good as any forward in Ireland all the best on your retirement still think he's loads to offer Meath football and will be a big loss.

Sad to see Stephen retire, one of the few Meath forwards of late that could win his own ball, will be missed next year. Unfortunately for him played on poor Meath teams. Best of luck in retirement

Fine player. He would have held his own on any of the Meath teams of the 80s and 90s.

A good player ok
R dunne,
You say he deserved a Celtic cross. I can think of
hundreds of others in the same boat.
Did he deserve the medal he got for 11/07/ 2010?
What did he do on your date?

Of course he deserved the Leinster medal he got that day, not his fault ref didn't award the penalty and gave goal instead. And lets not forget graham Reilly was robbed of a all star that year, yes he deserved the Celtic cross that he would have got if he was born 5 years earlier.
