Kevin Keane Appeal

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I just read there this morning that Mayo are going to appeal Keane's red card. I know that Noel Connelly says Mayo "don't feel there was a whole pile in it," but for me, Keane punched Murphy right in the face straight in front of the umpire. What grounds could they possibly have for an appeal?

True enough. It will probably be upheld, but personally, Id like to see this sort of thing overturned on sheer common sense grounds. I mean murphy strikes him in the chest, but then just grabs his jersey afterwards to make it seem less of a strike and more of a grab, but the force is obvious, and the intent is obvious. What is the difference? It seems to be open season on strikes into the chest as long as you get a hold of the jersey, while you cant even brush against a guys face. Murphy was also the aggressor and instigated it. Furthermore, I dont think the kind of tap keane carried out is the type of thing that the strike rule was intended for. I hate the way that in a schmozzle where two guys are as bad as each other, one gets banned and the other doesn't purely because of how they go about it. If one was going, then the two should have gone. Personally, I don't think either should have gone, and Id still say that if it was murphy who got the line and not keane. There were far worse things that happen in games that aren't even a free. Now his ban will probably stand, but going forward, Id like to see common sense used.

Keane made a huge mistake and the ban will have to be upheld. Mayo now have very limited options in the full back line.

Daft stuff from Mayo to be appealing it. Might stand against them in the future.

Clear as day strike

Punched him closed fist in the face

Caught perfectly on TV

Excellent work by umpire and ref to give him a straight red

We had a perfectly applied collusion between ref and umpire following the rule book...

It's a blatant correct decision

And it STILL gets appealed

He pegged him one in the face. Don't think it should be overturned.

Good man Master you are at it again. Murphy pushes Keane in the chest and then grabs his jersey. Michael Murphy did not strike Keane, he pushed him. Big difference.

Yes, the ban should stand- a clear strike. Michael Murphy should receive a retrospective ban for being the aggressor in the situation.

It wont be overturned and was stupid by Keane but Murphy should have gone too. Murphy running to the ref then crying looked bad. Something must have happened or been said and probably goes back to the 2012 final. I don't know why we are appealing but sure worth a try I suppose.

Ah the good old 'premier league' comment :-)

When I see that being reached for I know someone is angry!

Sorry but how should Murphy have gone? Unless he was already booked then he should have received a yellow, but he did not commit a red card offence. Pushing someone and then grabbing their jersey is childish, but not a red card offence. Keane while it was a light punch, was a red card unfortuntely.

They should extend the ban. Make him miss any potential final as well. We need to start somewhere in order to get rid of this type of behaviour, conveniently enough my county aren't involved so that time is now.

Look

It shouldnt be resinded by the law of the game which states a red card is the right cause of action when there is a striking offence made toward the opposition.

That said the rule book doesn't state anywhere that a guy can be banned for 4 weeks for dropping to the ground like a fairy, Yet the GAA made that particular rule up mid season. The usual s***e from the GAA hierarchy

So if McCann can get a ban for something thats not a red card offence, Why not try get off a genuine red card ?

Worth a try.

Give him 8 weeks for bringing the game into disrepute.

He was stupid

He deserved the red

Them are the rules...

Look what happens when the rules are ignored for so long....

It turns into this McCann fiasco...

________

They aren't doing that Wayno

The rule exits for bringing the game into disrepute and this is what he's been currently charged under.

They have not introduced a new mid-season rule which is impossible to do anyway - with the way the GAA run

It's important to understand that

The rule already existed and IMO he absolutely did bring the game into disrepute
