Cavan have a great history however are they really now a top county in modern day football ?. Four U21 ulster titles in a row and no All Ireland final. Tyrone win Ulster and add the All Ireland showing Cavan the way. #interesting sam1884 (UK) - Posts: 999 - 02/05/2015 21:49:24 1719811 Link 0 |
It was a tyrone man who was instrumental in those 4 titles for cavan. Back with tyrone and they are showing he is a good coach- peter donnelly. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 03/05/2015 09:29:51 1719818 Link 0 |

Cavan have produced a lot of solid players from the u21 teams, but not many, if any, top class inside forwards. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 03/05/2015 10:09:57 1719826 Link 0 |
Would you want Cavan to win that way? valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1890 - 03/05/2015 10:14:55 1719827 Link 0 |
A great win for Tyrone and under age success is important but the development of the players is even more so. As a outsider it looks like Cavan are going the right way with under age titles and progress in the national league with division two consolidation. I expect them to shake Monaghan in the championship. Roscommon are another who seem to be doing it the right way with under age success and progress in the national league. I would agree that Peter Donnelly would have had a big impact on Tyrone and he certainly left his mark on the Cavan lads. We have got some good players out of our underage system but maybe lack the cutting edge to transform it into All Ireland's. After all, our seniors have 39 ulster titles and only 5 all ireland's! Four Ulster 21 titles in a row speaks for itself. The Cavan giant will rise again, its a question of when, lest we forget Cavan are still Ulsters premier football county in terms of titles and that alone will take some beating. brendtheredhand (Tyrone) - Posts: 10897 - 03/05/2015 10:49:20 1719838 Link 0 |

Lads, we have 37 Ulster titles, not 39 cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5012 - 03/05/2015 11:20:33 1719851 Link 0 |
Tipperary beat Dublin, something Cavan couldn't do last year. They were Munstr U21 champions in 2010 and have contested the Munster u21 finals in 2013 and 2014, Minor all Ireland champions 2011, not like they came out of nowhere. Cavans problem four under 21s in a row and not a decent forward. Players fit to play a system but not to play football.Imo. tom84 (Cavan) - Posts: 334 - 03/05/2015 19:41:56 1720023 Link 0 |
Am not sure the point of the thread. Is it about U21 success being a serious marker to senior success or bemoaning whether a county is a top team in modern day football. Roscommon have won 4 of the last 6 U21 titles in Connacht with Galway winning the other two. Galway went onto win two all-Irelands while the Rossies unfortunately won none. In fairness to the Rossies though they are getting it together at senior. Galway also getting it together under a new manager but might take a bit more time. Cavan's development will watched with interest this year given some of the u21s have decent senior experience behind them and peak senior age appears a lot younger than other eras. kiloughter (Galway) - Posts: 1946 - 05/05/2015 11:34:09 1720296 Link 0 |
