All Ireland Champions be be relegated?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Things looked good for Kerry at one stage to at least make the semi-final..

Surely the AI Champs are good enough to stay in Div 1... yes they are missing a few.. but isn't everyone?

Last time Dublin won the AI..they went onto win the league the following year...

Didn't Donegal also get relegated the following year in 2013?

We all know what happened to them in the championship that year...

Despite what a few from Kerry might say...

It's a wee bit embarrassing to be relegated while supposedly being the best team in Ireland.... especially if it's Tyrone that drives home the final nail

I don't think Kerry will be too worried provided they get it together for the championship. In the grand scheme of things the league is insignificant. Paul Galvin's return three months into the year being a good indicator.

It'd be embarrassing to have less than 3 wins on the board. Kerry have not been dismissive of the league. If we drop down to take on some new counties, so be it.

__________

Play like you did against Dublin and you'll beat just about everyone in the country....

A toothless enough Kerry team being very much part of that...

No surprise really very average kerry team without JOD and Gooch even the tv stations obviously feel the same way cause they never show kerry games, Setanta felt Down v Meath was a better game to show than kerry last weekend...... Ouch.

I am surprised anyone pays too much heed the NAtional League given it is a competition that different teams enter with different aspirations.

Mmm a bit of friendly ribbing there Jimbo, I doubt the Kingdom will be overly concerned about the league having said that I fully expect them to beat Tyrone at the weekend. All Ireland champions have been relegated before, we went down after winning the All Ireland in '88 not that anyone really cared at the time and we won the league from Division 2 the following season. I dare say the Kingdom are still blowing the Guinness from last winter out of their system, I expect they will survive in Division 1 and then gaze with intent upon the Championship

Ah sure they won a handy all Ireland last year gifted to them by Durcans mistake! They didn't meet the dubs on the way because Donegal had taken care of them and then Donegal didn't turn up on Ai day and to make it worse for Donegal they couldn't handle the blanket defence set up by Kerry! Handiest Ai ever!

Bare in mind that Tommy Walsh still has to get back into the swing of things, Paul Galvin is only back, James O Donaghue is out injured and Colm Cooper is out injured, there is a reason why their struggling

Sure all teams have injured players at present... they weren't struggling a few weeks ago

I'd expect a tight enough game between the two this weekend. Tyrone were awful against Donegal on Sunday and can only improve. Our lads had a similar performance v Monaghan and we seen a very positive reaction against Kerry albeit we still lost but were much improved. Kerry will find tyrone fired up this Sunday and should be a clinker of a game.

Its not the end of the world if we lose to Tyrone we have had a good league, we've beaten Donegal, Dublin and Derry but I feel we've learned more from the three games we lost especially the Monaghan game. Marc and Darren are only after returning and we will probably be without Paul Murphy, Aidan O Mahony, Brian Sheehan, James O Donoghue, Gooch and Donnchadh Walsh. All these lads will be a massive boost come championship for us.

When was the last time a team won the all ireland from division 2?

Well jim we've beaten yerselves and donegal who along with us are the 3 best teams in the country, we've given experience and game time to the likes of Pa Kilkenny, Mark Griffin, Jonathan Lyne, Stephen O Brien and a few more lads. We have learned we need a back up free taker to Sheehan, Donaghy is not certain to start, Moran and Maher are developing into the best midfield pairing in Ireland, Mark Griffin looks like he could be a quality full back, Jonathan lyne can play in the half back or half forward lines.

I think that is a good league campaign.

Relegated or not , they still have the easiest route in Ireland to August weekend . Really doubt if they're bothered!

Well boys it's like this Dublin are a league team every1 knows that , and they are only 1 point ahead of us so that shows we haven't had a bad campaign . Dubs blew every one last year out of the water in the league and when it came to the championship they didn't manage to beat one div1 team so in fairness the league doesn't mean squat and iv been saying that for years. As for the television thing clondalkin mentioned , that's a bit of a random and out of left field attempt of an insult :-) and it doesn't matter a jot as sure yerra don't we have weeshie on the radio.

Jimbo and Clondalkin yere in flying form tonight!

Being honest I'm still peeved off about our performance on Sunday. Big crowd, a semi final up for grabs and motoring well being 5-0 up and dominating Monaghan for the first 20 minutes. And now staring down the barrel of relegation!

I know the League is not the end of the world, and its par for the course for teams to be a bit up and down in their performances throughout it. I also know Kerry would probably not have targeted a League title as one of their aims, given the All Ireland but still you need to be in Division 1 these days to be competitive come the Championship.

Going down would be a blow to morale, and a big handicap in preparing for the 2016 championship.

Yerra it could be worse, we could one of those sides that can only manage to score 2 points in an entire 35 minutes of football in Croker, eh Jimbo??
