St Patricks Day

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Of course it is just a couple of days pure drinking session for some(most maybe) of us, but i was just wondering where is everyone planning on going for it?
I think im heading til belfast for it this year. Didnt head to belfast(and thankfully so) for last years one, so hoping for good time. Where are the parades all taking place. Dublin of course and letterkenny(?). Anywhere else?

Strangely Irish people in Ireland by and large do NOT celebrate St Patrique's day, our beloved French Saint.

In England, US of A, Oz and indeed anywhere else it is massive for about a month.

You had better tell the Australians that. I have never seen it celebrated it for a month perhaps they will start so as you will be right. They celebrate it for one day and not particularly well either. And last I heard there was no confirmation whether St Patricks origins were from England or mainland Europe. The franks had nor established themselves in the region known now as france. I think it is accepted that he was from Roman stock some where. However noone disputes that he is an Irish Saint. Some even recognise him as being the patron saint of Ireland.

I'll be in the Manchester parade tomorrow, one of the biggest in the world at present. A Gaelic Mass is followed by the parade which trails its way from the Irish Centre through the city to the Town Hall and back to the Centre again. It is always a busy time in Manchester and one of the best supported events in the city during the year. I'll have to sneak of for the Fulham game though which is a shame.
