Kildare eager to hold onto McGeeney

Kildare manager Kieran McGeeney
Kildare chairman Padraig Ashe is keen to retain the services of Kieran McGeeney as football manager.
The former Armagh All-Ireland winning captain's three-year tenure officially came to an end after Sunday's heartbreaking All-Ireland semi-final loss to Down, but Kildare officials are eager to see him continue in the role. After a shaky start to his managerial career, McGeeney has proven himself to be one of the best young managers in the game, having guided the Lilywhites to an All-Ireland semi-final and two All-Ireland quarter-final appearances over the past three years.
"Kieran was appointed for a three-year term and this is the final year of it," Ashe explained.
"I'm on record since I became chairman of the Kildare County Board last year that no stone would be left unturned to keep this management in place. That still stands and that's what we'd hope would happen."
