UCD came from behind to edge a close first round encounter against NUIG in Dangan today.

NUIG scored a comfortable victory over Trinity last week and they enjoyed a 1-3 to 0-3 interval lead today thanks to Owen Gallagher's goal.

But, with Westmeath star John Heslin (0-7) in good scoring form, John Divilly's charges outscored their opponents by eight points to three in the second-half.

A 55th minute point from Heslin's Lake County team-mate Ray Connellan left the bare minimum between the sides with five minutes remaining but it finished UCD 0-11, NUIG 1-6.

Dublin ace Paul Mannion also got on the scoresheet with two points for the Belfield outfit who will now face UCC in the last eight.
