Ireland captain Bernard Brogan says he and his team mates won't be just making up numbers when they step out on to Croke Park this evening to face Australia.

The 19th International Rules series sees Joe Kernan's squad are ranked as 7/4 outsiders against the highly-rated rated Aussies but Brogan - a three-time All-Ireland winner with Dublin - says that home side will be doing their all to claim back the Cormac McAnallen Cup.

"We're not going in here to put on a spectacle - we obviously want to have a great game, but we're going to go hard, like the Australians will, and we're going to give it a good lash," said the former Footballer of the Year.

"We've full belief in ourselves, and we wouldn't be doing it if we didn't think we were going to win.

"We're amateur athletes but we always say we're professional in everything we do. We want to pit ourselves against the best in the world in sport and see where we're at.

"We wouldn't be coming out here if we just thought we were going to make up the numbers. And Joe wouldn't be putting his time in over the last 12 weeks."
