Dublin GAA fans were saddened to learn of the death of popular sports presenter Johnny Lyons yesterday.

The 98FM sports editor was found dead at his home in Dublin city centre last night. Mr Lyons, who was in his forties, had been off work with a broken ankle but was due to return next week.

The deceased presented the Now That's What I Call Sport show every Sunday morning. Recent guests on the show included Dublin GAA personalities Paul 'Pillar' Caffrey, Charlie Redmond, Ray Cosgrove and Humphrey Kelleher.

A statement on the 98FM website said Johnny's colleagues were 'heartbroken' at the news of his sudden passing.

"Johnny died suddenly and peacefully at his home in Dublin," it said.

"Johnny has been the backbone of our sports team for over 20 years. His distinctive voice and his passion for soccer defined Johnny for so many of his listeners. He was a talented presenter with a deep knowledge and love of sport."
