An ongoing Achilles heel injury has forced Ger Brennan to drop himself off the Dublin football panel for the remainder of the year.

The injury-plagued All-Ireland winning centre back with St. Vincent's and Dublin hasn't featured for the Dubs since the 2013 All-Ireland final victory over Mayo.

A statement released by Dublin GAA this afternoon read: "Dublin senior footballer Ger Brennan has decided to take a break from football for this summer. The player's Achilles heel injury has thankfully made steady progress and Ger will, after this extended period of recovery, return to play with his club St Vincent's later in the year, and with the county team in 2016.

"The Dublin Senior Football team will continue to provide Ger with the necessary support during his recovery period."
