Midfielder Niall McMorrow has been ruled out of Dublin's entire Leinster SHC campaign.
The Ballyboden St Enda's clubman will undergo corrective surgery on a thumb ligament problem and will be sidelined for two months.
Selector Gearoid O'Riain confirmed the blow to The Irish Daily Star: "Niall has to get an operation on a ligament in his thumb. It needs to be done now to avoid any long-term issues. He is likely to be out of full action for two months but would return to rehab training very quickly."
With Dublin's Leinster SHC opener against Galway now only twelve days away, a number of players are vying for roles in the engine-room, including former Kerry ace Darragh O'Connell, Johnny McCaffrey, Joey Boland, Shane Durkin, Ben Quinn and Danny Sutcliffe.
