Carla Rowe from Clann Mhuire will captain the Dublin U21 team this season. 

 

The Dundalk IT student has excelled at underage level for her County winning a Minor All Ireland title in 20012 while adding a U21 All Ireland medal to her collection in 2014.

 

Having put the of memory of losing the 2013 minor final to Galway behind her Rowe forged ahead making her way into the senior set up under manager Gregory McGonigle soon becoming a key figure in the Dublin senior panel.

 

Rowe also played a pivotal role for her club Clann Mhuire last season helping the Naul side claim their first Dublin Junior championship.

 

One of Rowe's best displays for Dublin came in the half back line last May in the TESCO Home Grown NFL final versus Cork. That game which was televised live by TG4 brought the exciting and dynamic Dub a legion of new fans with many disheartened that Rowe's display was denied the TG4 Player of the match accolade.

 

By the time championship football came around the versatile player had switched to a more prominent role for the Dubs playing as a half forward. Rowe's talent and skill was recognised by the LGFA when the then 19 year old student received an All Star nomination a wonderful achievement for the young player in her senior debut year.

 

Rowe is an energetic footballer with a powerful engine she is a born leader that is sometimes as vocal on the field of play as some of her more experienced colleagues.

 

Sarah McCaffrey from Clontarf was announced as the U21 vice- captain while Rowe will also serve as vice- captain of the Dublin senior team. Lyndsey Davey from Skerries Harps was announced last week as the new senior team captain for 2015.

 

Speaking at the announcement of her captaincy Rowe said "It's a massive honour and I'm absolutely delighted to have been given the roles of Dublin U21's captain along with the Dublin senior ladies vice -captain position. We know it's going to take hard work to meet the goals we've set for ourselves but all the players are committed and looking forward to the season ahead".

 

"With the U21s we're looking to repeat last year's season and work even harder to ensure Dublin get back to the All-Ireland final.  Regarding the senior team we need to reflect back on last year,  take what we need to improve on and from there look forward to the coming year as a whole new year and opportunity.".

 

The TESCO Home Grown NFL gets underway this weekend with Dublin play Monaghan at 2pm in DCU.
