Tomas Quinn admits St. Vincent's could easily have lost to Garrycastle after leading by 10 points at one stage.

When Shane Carty scored their second goal in the 24th minute, the reigning All-Ireland champions led by 2-6 to 0-2, but they played second fiddle for the next 20 minutes as the Westmeath kingpins hit 1-7 without reply to draw level. James Dolan then had a goal chance saved, and Garrycastle were left to rue that miss when Quinn converted a late penalty to seal a 3-9 to 1-10 win for the relieved Marino men.

"I think they hit 1-6 or 1-7 on us without reply which isn't acceptable for us and Michael Savage producing a great save obviously kept it to that. So it could have been worse for us," the former Dublin star said.

"We just need to be more consistent. The thing is that if we play for just 20 minutes again, that's not going to be good enough. We've got to keep going for the whole game.

"It's a strange feeling really because we've won the Leinster semi-final by five points, but we're walking out of here quite disappointed. We know we have plenty to work on.

"When you're 10 points up and all of a sudden see it erode in front of you, that's something you have to address.

"If you make a habit of it, you won't be around for much longer. It'll stand to us if we learn from it. That's the challenge - we can't let that happen again."
