Rory Gallagher's father has set the record straight regarding a story that he was verbally abused by Donegal supporters in Markievicz Park on Saturday evening.

The claim that Gerry Gallagher was subjected to some less than complimentary comments from some Donegal supporters during the heavy 0-14 to 4-17 qualifier defeat to Galway last Saturday surfaced in 1992 All-Ireland winning manager Brian McEniff's weekly Donegal Democrat column.

In response, Gerry Gallagher tweeted former Donegal star Eamonn McGee yesterday to inform him that there was no truth whatsoever in the story.

Meanwhile, McEniff's All-Ireland winning captain Anthony Molloy has slammed the 'disgusting' abuse that manager Rory Gallagher has been on the receiving end ever since the weekend's game.

Speaking to The Irish Daily Star, Molloy said: "I'll tell it as it is. Being a manager is a fickle business. But I can't condone the abuse given to our manager Rory.

"I was shown just some of this stuff up on social media. It was disgusting to say the least.

"In management, it's the old cliche, you're only as good as your last game. I know that myself personally.

"But, these faceless people online are just cowards.

"We've no room for those so-called supporters in Donegal. Rory Gallagher is a family man, a businessman.

"He is giving up a lot, and I mean a lot of his spare time over the last number of years. He deserves a little bit more respect."
