Ladies Football: Glen Ladies put their county title on the line against Ballinascreen in a repeat of the previous year's encounter. Played in Owenbeg, Glen were playing against a small breeze in the first half.  Glen started the game well and were quick to settle. In their first attack they cut through the Screen defence only for corner forward Bronagh McNichol to see her shot rattle of the crossbar with the goal keeper beaten.  Claire McGroggan was quick to react and pointed Glen's first score. After an excellent turnover caused by some excellent tackling by Lauren O'Loughlin, O'Loughlin played a beautiful pass to McGroggan who off loaded to full forward Breena O'Loughlin. Brenna burst through the Screen defence and slotted the ball to the corner of the net to give leave Glen 1-1 to no score up within five minutes. Ballinascreen then got on top around the middle and responded with a point from a free and a point from play. Brenna O'Loughlin responded with a point from Glen but Screen responded with a goal in the 18th minute to leave the game level.  Glen then took control of the rest of the half. A shot from McGroggan was blocked down and some quick hands between McMaster, McGroggan and B O'Loughlin left B McNichol straight through and she finished calmly to the bottom corner of the net.  B O'Loughlin then hit a point from a free to bring the half to end after some excellent work from first half substitute Catherine McKenna. Half-time:  Glen 2-3 Ballinascreen 1-2. Glen started the second half in very positive manner with McGroggan scoring a good free from a tight angle to start the half.  Clearly on top all over the pitch, Glen failed to make this count in the first 10 minutes of the second half where they hit four wide's from very score able positions. The work rate of the half forwards F Glasgow, McMaster and C McKenna meant Screen were struggling to get the ball out of their half of the pitch. Brenna O'Loughlin finally got the scoreboard moving again in the 12th minute of the second half with a good score after some good build up play from Moran and Convery in the centre of the park.  Glen were then reduced to 14 players for 10 minutes when their captain and midfielder Alicia Convery was given a yellow card. Instead of being a disadvantage for Glen, this seemed to spur them on. The full back line, marshalled by McKenna, A Glasgow and McGrath, fought for every ball and Screen found it impossible to pass them. The half back of Kivlehan, Heavron and Darragh drove at Screen from defence and placed them under all sorts of pressure. Kivlehan, in particular, seemed to be covering every blade of grass popping up in the full back line and full forward line. McGroggan switched to midfield and Screen found it hard to deal with her direct running and accurate passing. Substitutes Kielt and Deirbhla McNicholl also added freshness to the forward line. It was Kielt who scored twice in this period, once form a play and once from a free, to leave eight between the teams. Screen mustered a goal chance from a quickly taken free but Cassidy pulled of a tremendous save, pushing the ball onto the crossbar and the Glen defence cleared.  It was Brenna O'Loughlin who had the last say in the game as she hit a point after some great team play to leave the final score Glen 2-8 Ballinascreen 1-2 and Glen were county champions again.  Remarkably the Glen defence had kept Ballinascreen scoreless for the final 40 minutes of the game. Glen now progress to the first round of the Ulster Club championship on the 2nd of October where they will play Antrim champions, Glenavy. The match will be a home match for Glen. All support would be appreciated. The team would also like to wish Ladies Chairwomen and Glen full back Maria McGrath Bon Voyage as she departs this week for Australia. Player of the match award went to Dervla McMaster. Team B Cassidy, A Glasgow, M McGrath, D McKenna, A McGuigan, S Darragh, L O'Loughlin, A Convery, C Moran, F Glasgow, D McMaster, D Kivlehan, C McGroggan (0-02), B O'Loughlin(1-4), B McNicholl (1-00). Subs:  C McKenna for A McGuigan, B Heavron for L O'Loughlin, C Kielt (0-02) for B McNicholl, D McNicholl for F Glasgow.
