If Slaughtneil are to retain their Derry SFC crown, they will have to do it via the backdoor route following their first round defeat to Lavey in Owenbeg yesterday.

Cailean O'Boyle's late goal handed Lavey a dramatic 3-7 to 1-11 victory over last season's All-Ireland finalists. The county star also netted a 42nd minute penalty, and set up Niall Toner for a first half major.

In the other first round games, Bellaghy came from behind to beat Glen 2-14 to 1-10, Dungiven defeated local rivals Banagher 2-11 to 1-10, Foreglen edged out Newbridge 1-12 to 1-10, while Kilrea powered to a 3-17 to 1-12 win over Swatragh.

The second round draw is as follows:

Winners' group: Lavey v Loup; Kilrea v Dungiven; Bellaghy v Coleraine; Ballinascreen/Ballinderry v Foreglen.

Losers' group: Glen v Banagher; Swatragh v Newbridge; Magherafelt v Slaughtneil; Ballinascreen/Ballinderry v Glenullin.
