St Colm's Under 14 Hurlers Win Feile na nGael Title St Colm's 3-06  Kevin Lynch's 1-02

On Sunday morning at a windswept Owenbeg stadium St Colm's, Ballinascreen captured their third Feile title in five years. With a strong wind blowing directly down the pitch this was always going to be 'a game of two halves'. Dungiven had the advantage of the wind in the opening half, but it was Ballinascreen who had the first few attacks. Eoin McCallion and Jack Conway did well to win possession in their corner forward positions and Screen were unlucky not to get a few early scores, however it was Dungiven who scored first with a goal from a high ball into the Screen goal mouth. Shane Grant quickly replied with a free to make it a two point lead.  The score remained like this for much of the half. The Screen defence stood up well to the Dungiven attacks with Pauric McEldowney courageously blocking a number of shots, Aodan O'Hagan clearing his lines confidently and Odhran Fullerton acting as a rock at the heart of the defence. Dungiven were only restricted to shots from frees and tagged on two points to push the lead out to four points. At the short whistle the score was: St Colm's 0-01Kevin Lynch's 1-02.

Immediately at the start of the second half the Screen lads attacked the Dungiven goals and won a couple of frees, which Grant confidently struck over to eat into the lead. Screen then began to take control of the game and used the wind intelligently. Niall Doyle began to assert himself in midfield, popping over a smart score from a well worked Ronan McKenna free.  The half back line of Oisin McCluskey, Ronan McKenna and Emmet Donnelly provided a wall that Dungiven found difficult to pass. Anytime they did get near the Screen goals Jake Donnelly showed his worth as a goalkeeper with his command of the square and long clearances. At the opposite end  Michael Murray and Lee Colville worked very hard in the half forwards and made it difficult for Dungiven to clear the ball and the introduction of Lorcan McAlinden and James O'Connor energised the Screen attack. Goals from the dangerous Mark Farrelly and poacher Jamie Murray helped Screen build a strong lead.

Jack Conway won a lot of ball in the Dungiven half and linked up well with Jamie Murray.  Conway won the free that allowed Grant to stretch the lead to six points. Then a terrific 1-01 from Farrelly sealed the win. This was a victory that was built on the hard work put in against the wind in the first half and the attacking hurling in the second half. The commitment from both teams and their skills in difficult conditions must be commended.  St Colm's, Ballinascreen Under 14 hurlers will now focus on preparing for the All Ireland Feile n nGael. A big thank you to the players' parents, everyone who was involved in preparations for the game and the supporters who turned out at the game and attended the reception at the club house.
