Derry manager Brian McIver feels that the McKenna Cup is very beneficial ahead of the National League campaign.

The Oakleafers may have lost out to Fermanagh last weekend, while tonight's game against Queen's at Owenbeg is off due to an unplayable pitch.

McIver admitted to the County Derry Post that the aim of the McKenna Cup was to run the rule over a number of new players and he feels they have achieved that goal.

"We set our stall out in the McKenna Cup, to have a look at everyone we've been looking at over the last while," stated McIver.

"We've fulfilled that promise. We now have to sit down and get ourselves sorted out before the league starts. You play like we did in the second half, it does nobody any good. We know we have a lot of work to do. Maybe from that perspective, it is a good thing."
