Derry captain Ruairi Convery believes that the home support can play their part in Sunday's Ulster SHC final against Antrim at Owenbeg.

The Oakleafers booked their place in the provincial decider courtesy of a comfortable win over Down in their replayed semi-final last weekend.

They go into the decider as underdogs against a highly fancied Antrim side, but Convery told the County Derry Post that if they get the backing from their own supporters, then anything is possible.

"Hopefully, we can get a decent crowd at home. There's a decent hurling tradition in the county and the hurling fans can maybe be our 16th man. We need every bit of help we can get," said Convery.

"We'll be very much the underdogs on Sunday, but that suits us fine. We'll come in under the radar and nobody will be expecting us to win.

"Antrim will be strong favourites - they play at a much higher level. But having said that at least we have home advantage which we'll be very glad of having travelled to Clones and Armagh this last two weekends."
