Mayo team for replay v the Rossies

(Oldest Posts First)

Had to register and throw my tuppence worth in, in the quest for Sam. My team for the replay, and hopefully further would be Clarke, Harrison, Vaughan, Higgins, Barrett, Boyle Durcan, Parsons, Keegan, McLoughlin, A o' Shea, Doherty, Lotus, Cillian, & Moran. Half time Boyle and Moran would be taken off only to be reintroduced with 10 minutes plus stoppage left. We need them 2 in that last period, fresh and ready for action.
I like Cafferkey but he's not up to it, he is costing us scores already, we don't want him costing us the All-Ireland, not physical enough and always 3/4 yards behind his man, Vaughan is a stop gap, there has to be a good full back in Mayo !!!!!!!!

Caff is a liability at fullback, others have to cover for him and end up not marking their own man properly, where is Barry Moran, is he even on the panel, he's badly wanted as our midfielders can't play 2 decent games in a row, D O'Connor isn't fully fit, seems to be something wrong either mentally or physically, he isn't playing as well as he can, hasn't played a decent game since Kildare last year, I would bring on Andy Moran as an impact sub with 20 mins to go, it will get the crowd going as well as the players

Keegan at midfield, A O Shea at full forward for the full game , Andy as a sub last 20 minutes, Vaughan at fullback , sub also for D O Connor coming on after about 20 minutes for whatever forward is not playing well or who has not scored by then

Keegan has to be freed from his man marking duties. His strengths are attacking and scoring and we need to play to our strengths. We have got caught up by designating him man marking jobs - usually against Dublin on Connolly but last year when Coen came on for Keegan
's black card he nullified Connolly. Coen to be our man marker and Keegan to be an attacking defender/midfielder where he plays his best football

Andy Moran to be saved for last 20/25 minutes when needed most and defenders will be tired by then. Seamus O'Shea as well. Keegan should be given a attacking role as he is your best attacker in the team! Let him loose as you have plenty of good defenders named there able to handle any back.

Not often I might agree with Meath man - but I'm behind you on this selection. Andy looked tired on Sunday, he had played well against Cork so maybe difficult to drop him for Ross match but Loftus definitely looks like he is due his place now.

Mayo spent the league fairly determined to give little away in terms of tactics etc, to the extent that we didn't even show up for the Dubs game. The Dubs on the other hand go out to approach games the same way every time, and look to execute better every time (doesn't always work out, but that's still the aim). Kerry look like they've fixed on their tactical approach and whoever wins Monday will have a fair idea what's coming next. We eventually adapted to a sweeper system last year, but have something far looser going on at the back this time (a bit zonal or something), and if it ever works maybe we'll understand the process. Up front we have no pattern at all, with a reliance on Andy to beat his marker and make things up as we go along after. I saw some potential for young Loftus to be used in the Gooch role at CHF, because he can pick a precise quick foot pass. Imagine the damage that could be caused by having Aidan at FF and someone capable of hitting him with chest height ball close the small square. Instead when Aidan drifts in there the odd badly directed crossfield ball might be all he can expect. It's rubbish football! We have players who can do far better and probably execute a simpler more reliable attacking plan. Are we waiting for the final again or something? It's hard to read what's going on. We need a genuine performance next Monday or we'll only have ended up fooling ourselves.

They will start the same 15 as last week maybe start Parsons but 99% of the team will be the same, after last weeks game he said we are disappointed that the team didn't push on and get the win. What planet are they living on? Mayo were pathetic last week and were lucky that Roscommon missed a few sortable points. They aren't watching the same matches that the rest of us are watching

It'd have been a bigger surprise if the team showed changes or if it plays as announced. I don't get the impression that the squad is unhappy with where they're at or the fact that people now give them zero chance of winning Sam.

'Mayo were pathetic last week ' I think your wrong. This is the level mayo have being at in 2017. In both league and championship this bunch is in decline. They have given their supporters great value. The level of experience that they have accrued over the last number of years is what has saved them v Derry, Clare and Roscommon. That experience is still enough to tip the game in Mayos favor but that facts remain the same this team has alot of battles fought and alot of milage on the clock with little expansion of the squad at the level required. Looking at the match objectively the game comes down to two factors. 1. How much will roscommon improve having experienced a match at that level in croke Park. 2. How will Mayo best use the experience they have gleaned over the last years to outfox Roscommon.
Either way hopefully its another super contest both sides deserve great credit for last weekend battle.
