Wicklow Vs Dublin

(Oldest Posts First)

Mailed the Leinster Council yesterday. Dublin vs Wicklow is fixed for 2pm in Parnell Park.

I would start with the same 15 as we did against Carlow, anyone agree or what changes would you make?

Who do yee think is the best player in the county, currently not on the panel?

It's a pity there is only one player from Newtown on the panel, they played some nice football last year and 1 or 2 at least deserved a look!

Andy Halpin was in great form last year for the 'magpies' maybe if he hadn't of got injured he might of got another look from the wicklow selectors.

Some players playing last Sunday who I have never heard of!

Dean Odlums older brother Ross must surely be worth a look, he has a massive workrate in every match he plays he covers nearly every blade of grass on the pitch!

Am a Newtown supporter but dont think we have anyone apart from Dean good enough for Wicklow team. Very few players impressed in championship exept for Halpin

NPN Halpin stood out in the team this year can't believe as a Newtown supporter you don't think Ross Odlum would be worth a look at, when you see some of the players Micko and his selectors have been looking at, there are far better players on the newtown team do you not think??

dont think any newtown players would get onto the county team.. Firstly because Dean Odlum makes them all look less of a footballer in comparison to him.. He's been in smashing form this year and its hard for a Newtown player to get noticed when he's getting 0-9 or 0-10 a game.. Also when we have all our forwards back playing in the forward line like the usual Glynn, Earls, Hannon, Furlong, C.Walsh, Mcgrath, Derek Daly... I cant see a Newtown player apart from Dean Odlum that could play at the same level as these.. With the papers every week its always Odlum points the way for Newtown etc. so unless selectors are going to matches they will be unseen.. Maybe in the League final they will get noticed?

Magpie, you are completly biased because your from Newtown. Do you not think its strange that only yourself from Newtown are calling for these players to be picked on the county team. In any county the best 15 or so players will always be picked and the rest of the panel is usually down to politics.

To be fair to Magpie, Newtown have got to League Final - they must have some good players!!

Maybe I am a bit biased, but with a team contesting in a senior final, missing out on the league on points difference surely 1 or 2 have to be worth a look for the PANEL players get injured so the best 15 may not be available, some of the newtown players are far better than some that are on the panel at the moment, this has been proven when Newtown have played against them in club matches I am only saying they should be worth a look on that basis and the fact that they are up there with the best year in year out

have to agree with magpie surely ross odlum or garrett doyle are worth looking at,they are surely better than some of the lads on the panel....if there is a better fullback than halpin in the county ,i have not seen him

I also think Dean is the only newtown player worth a look, he is outstanding compared with others on his team. Andy is a good full back & maybe worth a go, but any match i have seen ross wouldn't make the cut he seems to become very arrogrovated or something. As southern dandy said its Dean Odlums name constantly in the paper

I wouldn't always go by the paper wickla, 1 player doesn't win a match, I go to every newtown match hail rain or snow, what ross odlum has is passion, speed and alot of skill, yes Deano is a fabulous footballer but I really think Ross deserves a look put him on the big stage and I don't think he will leet anyone down seems to be when he plays his best football. He comes up trumps at the right times never say die attitude not enough players like that in the county imho.
Newtown were 7 points down in intermediate final there few years ago with few mins remaining on the clock, Ross ran riot scored the equalising goal to force extra time, got a broken jaw then for his troubles he was my player of the match along with many others although Garrett Doyle scored 2-6 so he got it.
I know that is going back a few years, but he has been overshadowed by Dean since then, he has the biggest workrate by far on the newtown team.
