Colm O'Neill is hoping to make his Cork return in the latter stages of the Allianz League.

The former All Star forward, who is recovering from a third cruciate ligament injury in four seasons, has resumed light training in recent weeks, but insists he still has some way to go before he can return to playing.

"It feels good. But it's early days," he is quoted in the Southern Star.

"There's still a good few months to go before I am back playing, but hopefully there will be a long season there.

"I haven't an exact comeback date in mind, to be honest. I want to see how the training is going and we can judge it after that. I'm not setting any definite date or anything like that - maybe the latter end of the league. Time will tell. As I said, I'll play it by ear."

O'Neill, who acted as water carrier to the Cork team in last Sunday's McGrath Cup win over LIT, said he never contemplated retirement after his cruciate curse struck again in last March's Allianz League game against Donegal at Pairc Ui Rinn.

"I never thought like that, about packing it all in," he continued.

"One thing that is on my mind is that I am young enough, and also I can what I am coming back to, an excellent set-up, and that was a big factor as well."
