Clare manager Colm Collins has suggested a change in format for the All-Ireland SFC would benefit the game.

Speaking in the aftermath of their defeat to Kerry in the Munster SFC semi-final, Collins feels that a change would make football more competitive.

"This is a personal view. As long as the championship is there, no matter what format, Clare will be competing. Watching the draws each year is like watching paint dry," Collins told the Clare Champion.

"It's the same old format and, in my view, it needs a revamp. The qualifiers are stacked in favour of the strong counties and if you catch one of the big guns once, it won't happen again.

"Eight groups of four, with the top eight teams seeded and the rest drawn and let them take their chances. Let each team play three games and then let the top two from each group go on to compete for the Sam Maguire Cup, with the remaining two from each group competing in a meaningful championship, which would run in conjunction with the Sam Maguire Cup title race."
