Collins set for March return

Clare's Podge Collins

Clare boss Davy Fitzgerald says he expects to have dual star Podge Collins back in his squad by March.

Collins has been on the road to recovery from the cruciate knee injury which he sustained whilst on duty for his club Cratloe in May of last year and was spotted at the Gaelic Grounds during a light work-out before Clare's Munster SHL final victory over Limerick last Sunday.

"He is still a small bit off, but he will get there. He's probably six weeks away I'd say myself," Fitzgerald told the Irish Examiner.

"I know he has something else happening in February, that has to be done. So you are looking at March before he gets back," said Fitzgerald.

It means that Collins will likely miss the Banner men's opening league games against Offaly and Wexford, and the footballers' Division 3 meetings with Sligo, Tipp and Limerick.
