Clare's Enda Coughlan has become the latest inter-county footballer to be struck by the cruciate curse.

The long-serving forward, who was one of the stars of Clare's extended championship run this summer, is facing up to a year out of the game after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during Kilmurry-Ibrickane's recent shock defeat to Kilkee in the opening round of the Clare SFC.

The injury is a huge blow to the former champions who need to beat Shannon Gaels in Doonbeg this evening to stay in the race for the Jack Daly Cup.

Coughlan, who captained Kilmurry-Ibrickane in their 2010 All-Ireland club final loss to St. Gall's, is also facing the prospect of missing the Banner's entire 2015 Allianz League campaign - they were promoted to Division 3 last year - as well as the start of next year's Munster SFC.
