Blayney Girls win the Double!!

Congratulations to our senior girls who defeated Clontibret in style on Sunday last with a score-line of 5-8 to 3-9 in the Monaghan League final. Another absorbing contest between the two well matched opponents provided an action packed and entertaining contest right to the end.

A close encounter had been anticipated and the girls showed a solid team performance with great leadership and courage. There was an excellent display of skill by both teams, but the Blayney girls were more accurate in front of the posts. The girls fought hard until the final whistle and endured significant bouts of pressure from Clontibret who found it hard to break through Blayney's strong defence and drove hard to score a goal but a point blank save from Roisin McKenna saved the day and ensured that Blayney clinched the title.

Blayney were in control throughout the match maintaining their five point lead in the latter period. The whole team put on a great display, and in particular, Eileen McElroy, who was awarded Player of the Match.

Castleblayney managers were delighted to see the girls win the League Title, but stressed that they needed to improve for the Ulster Semi Final on the 11th of October.

A special word of thanks to Drumhowan for their excellent facilities, the referee and the Match Officals and to our supporters.

Massive thanks to the Royal Jade for looking after the team following the game.
