Corydon and Tara camogie report

May 11, 2015

Croydon and Tara played out two very competitive games in the Spring League in Greenford on Saturday last. It was a bitter sweet day for both clubs with a team from each winning.  The first game of the day saw Croydon Celts take on Tara Óg. Croydon Celts played with the very strong wind in the first half. The wind played a major factor in both games. Croydon used the wind to their advantage and they opened up a 1-4 to 0-0  lead in the first 7 minutes with the scores coming from Anne Browne 1-0, Una McGouran 0-3 and Sorcha Forde 0-1. Tara Óg then opened their scoring  with a rasper of a goal by Lisa Creamer. Croydon finished the second half with a point from Sarah McGovern. The second half opened with Anne Browne scoring her second goal of the day and Sorcha Forde scoring the third Croydon goal. It was only then when Tara started to convert their scores that they had been threatening all day. They played some fantastic Camogie which saw them score 2-4 in a 15 minute period without reply. The scorers including Caroline Kelly and Angela Kennelly. Unfortunately it was too little too late for the West Londoners and the Croydon girls finished with 2 points ahead. It was a great effort by both teams which displayed some fantastic skill and perseverance.

The second game between Croydon Gaels and Tara Rovers followed and again, Croydon had the breeze in the first half. However, Tara opened the scoring with an unstoppable goal from Denise Gilliagn. Croydon responded with 3 points from Elaine Egan 0-2 and Ciara Keogh. Tara responded with a point again from full forward Denise Gilligan before Croydon finished out the half with 2 points from Egan 0-1 and Maeve McEnry 0-1. Tara playing with the wind in the second half and dominated scoring with 1-6 again from Gilligan who was immense all day. Croydon Gaels put in a strong performance but could not convert chances with strong defending from Tara in particular Helen Murphy and goalie Fiona O Grady. Again, a very good display of Camogie by both teams.
