London Camogie notes

March 23, 2015

Camogie has officially got back up and running in London again for 2015. After the Birmingham tournament on the 7th of March, all teams are back training and looking forward to the season ahead. The Birmingham tournament, hosted by Erin Go Bragh, saw 8 teams, which included Croydon (2), Tara, Erin Go Bragh, Green Isles, Fullen Geals, Tir Conail Harps ( Scotland) and Fr Murphys, compete in 9 a side games.

After some good hard battles throughout the day, Tara emerged victorious over Fr Murphy's in the final. Well done to Erin Go Bragh on hosting such a well run tournament.

This year there are a few changes to the competition's league Structure. As there are now only three teams competing in the senior competitions, the London County Camogie Board have decided to run an amalgamated league at the start of the season, which will engage both junior and senior teams.. It will ensure that all teams get the most games possible out of the league, and will hopefully further promote Camogie in London. Rules as to the mix of senior/junior players have been put in place to ensure the competition is as fair as possible. The new format league is set to kick off in a few weeks time.

The next big event for London Camogie will be the Tara tournament held in Greenford on the 11th of April. This will be Tara's 8th annual 7  a side tournament, with the first official tournament being held in 2006. It has always been a great day out with entertainment in the club house afterwards so please come out and show your support.

Congratulations to Rita O' Mahoney of Croydon who picked up 'Volunteer of the Year' award presented by The Camogie Association. Rita's continued dedication to Croydon and London Camogie has ensured the promotion and growth of the game in the UK, both at adult and underage level.  And some silverware was brought back to London at the recent Media Awards, held in Croke Park. Aileen Lawlor, President of the Camogie Association, presented the award for Best Match Programme to Rebecca Molloy, from London County Board. This was in relation to the senior county match programme for 2014. Well done to all involved in the making of the programme.

Best of luck to all teams in both Junior and Senior competitions for 2015. Hopefully it will a prosperous year for Camogie in London and be just as exhilarating as last year's season.
