Camogie Association honours County Players of the Decade

The Camogie Association honoured 24 County Players of the Decade at a special awards lunch at this year's Liberty Insurance All Ireland Camogie Finals on Sunday, September 14th in Croke Park.

The County Players of the Decade initiative is a key part of the Association's 110th anniversary celebrations.

Clubs and counties were invited to nominate their Player of the Decade, who had demonstrated exceptional levels of skill, dedication, sportsmanship and commitment to camogie at club and county level in the past decade. The centenary celebrations of 2004, accounted for players prior to this date.

The recipients included All Ireland winner and All Star, Therese Maher of Galway, Cork's Mary O'Connor, Deirdre Murphy of Clare, Wexford captain Kate Kelly as well as Jane Adams of Antrim and Susie O'Carroll of Kildare.

President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor said: "The County Players of the Decade is one of the initiatives to mark the 110th year of the Camogie Association. We are delighted to acknowledge at a national level the achievements of these players, 24 in total, who have made an enormous contribution to camogie both at local and national level. Their skill, dedication, commitment and passion for the sport are to be commended and it is fitting that their exceptional skills were recognised and celebrated on All Ireland Camogie Finals day."
