Westmeath Camogie Notes

Irish Daily Star League Semi Final
Westmeath 1-10
Armagh 0-08
Last Sunday there was a rematch between Westmeath and Armagh in O Raghallaigh's Drogheda. The Ulster team had defeated Westmeath by one point on 6th April. However on this occasion the Lake County team made certain to advance to the All-Ireland final of the Irish Daily Star league Division 3 with a comprehensive win over the Armagh team. Congratulations to the players and mentors on a great result.
The final will be played on 4th May against Dublin. Dublin defeated Roscommon 2-10 to 2-04 on Saturday. In their previous meeting in Cusack Park, Dublin defeated Westmeath on 16th March and the team will be preparing for a competitive match on this occasion.

Under 16 Leinster Campaign
The Under 16 county team are continuing their preparations for the Leinster Sheild final which will be played on next Saturday 26th April 2014. Details will be posted on facebook when available.

Under 16 Championship.
The next round of the under 16 championship are to be played on 23rd April followed by one round on 7th May before the exam break. Games will resume on 25th June then after the state exams.

Under 14 Feile na nGael.
Last Wednesday 16th April Lough Lene Gaels played Drumraney is the Féile semi-final. Drumraney progressed to the final where they will play against the winners of Castlepollard versus Clonkill. This semi-final was postponed as a mark of respect to the late Eoin Fagan, RIP, Castlepollard and will be played in the coming week.

All County League.
Round two of the league was played on Monday last 14th April. There are five rounds in each division of this new competition. Round three will be played next Sunday 27th April.

Under 12 Go Games Blitz
There have by now been two under 12 blitz days and the Camogie Board would like to extend many thanks to St. Oliver Plunkett's who hosted the blitz last Saturday. Well done to all participants. The next blitz for under 12s will be held on Saturday 31st May.

Under 8/10 Blitz.
Next Saturday 26th April the under 8 and 10s take to the fields of the county with a start to their Blitz mornings. All blitz take place at 11am on Saturday and the hosts next Saturday are Clonkill, St. Brigid's, Crookedwood and Cullion.

Camogie Crest Competition
Last Thursday 17th April we were delighted to hold a presentation event for the prize winners in the 'Design a Crest for Westmeath Camogie' competition. Emma Carter, Collinstown and Lough Lene Gaels was the outright winner and Emma was presented with a prize of a week long Portfolio preparation course at the Luan gallery, Athlone presented by the Arts Officer Miriam Mulrennan on behalf of the Arts Office of Westmeath County Council. Laura Doherty, Raharney was presented with the runner up prize in the Senior Cycle section of the competition and Aoife O'Malley, Rathwire and Raharney was presented with a first place in the Junior Cycle section of the competition. Mark Scally, Cathaoirleach of Westmeath Camogie Board presented Laura and Aoife with their prizes. Congratulations to Emma on her design which we will work to have developed as the new crest for Westmeath Camogie. Westmeath Camogie wish to thank the Westmeath Arts Office for their generous sponsorship of the competition. Many thanks to Michele Kirby who co-ordinated the competition.

Table Quiz
We are looking forward to relaxing at the County Camogie Table Quiz which will be held on Tuesday 22nd April at 8pm in the Annebrook House Hotel. Anyone interested in partaking in the quiz should contact their local camogie club with a view to entering a team.

All club delegates should note that the next meeting of Westmeath Camogie Board will be held on Tuesday 13th May at 8pm.
