Cork request green light

February 20, 2008
Cork have asked GAA president Nickey Brennan to allow them to play their postponed NHL clash with Kilkenny this weekend. The CCCC has already awarded the points to the Norsesiders but the Rebels are keen to take up their rivals' offer of playing the game on Sunday. Leeside chairman Mick Dolan now wants common sense to prevail so that the game can go ahead: "First of all, we really appreciate the gesture made by Kilkenny. That's what we want, Kilkenny want and the GAA public want. A game of that magnitude would bring in 15,000. "We were very disappointed with yesterday's decision but it's not too late yet, particularly for the Kilkenny match." Even if Central Council refuse the Rebel request, Cork have added that they'd be prepared to play Kilkenny in a challenge match with proceeds going to charity.
