Dromore shock Down champs

November 12, 2007
First timers Dromore (Tyrone) proved top class as they saw off (1-9 to 1-7) the challenge of an experienced Mayobridge (Down) side in a thrilling Ulster club SFC quarter-final game in Newry. As things panned out, it was a goal midway through the second half by Conor O'Neill which proved the difference between the two very competitive sides. Dromore started brilliantly with points from Shaun O'Neill and Stephen Fitzpatrick inside the opening minute getting the visitors up and running. Mayobridge levelled after six minutes through Michael Walsh and Noel Sexton both scoring frees. The sides exchanged points on the double thereafter before the Down men forged ahead with points from Benny Coulter and Ronan Sexton. Dromore failed to lie down though and Shaun O'Neill pointed on two occasions to leave the sides level at 0-6 apiece at half-time. Two minutes into the second half Benny Coulter set up Conor Garvey for a Mayobridge goal but Dromore kept their composure and responded with two points. Then cam Conor O'Neill's aforementioned goal which restored their lead, before Shaun O'Neill rounded off a brilliant team performance with a point five minutes from time.
