McIntyre turns to 1981 heroes

October 13, 2006
Offaly hurling manager John McIntyre has named 1981 All-Ireland winning heroes Paddy Kirwan and Aidan Fogarty as his selectors for the coming season. The pair replace outgoing selectors Joachim Kelly, who stepped down due to work commitments, and Daithi Regan, who felt it was time for someone new in the role. Kirwan played at left half forward in Offaly's breakthrough All-Ireland final victory over Galway 25 years ago, while Fogarty lined out at left half back. Fogarty has lived in Kilkenny for many years and was involved with O'Loughlin Gaels when they won their first county title in 2001. He has been previously linked with the Offaly's manager position. McIntyre was reappointed for a third term by the county board last month and was given the power to choose his own backroom team.
