Cork and Galway dominate hurling All Star nominations

With eleven nominees each for this year's All Star side, All-Ireland finalists Cork and Galway account for nearly half of the players up for awards this year. Cork are expected to dominate the team after winning a second consecutive Liam McCarthy Cup and Galway should come in second when the awards are announced live on Friday 25 November. Clare have seven players nominated with Leinster and NHL champions Kilkenny getting five players on the list. Tipperary have four players while Waterford and Wexford both have three up for All Stars and Limerick have one nominee. Cork captain Sean Og O hAilpin is up for his third consecutive award and is one of eight players who were honoured last year who are in with a chance of a consecutive All Star. The other seven are Damien Fitzhenry, Diarmuid O'Sullivan, Tommy Walsh, Jerry O'Connor, Henry Shefflin, Eoin Kelly and Brian Corcoran. The 2005 hurling All Star nominees are: Goalkeepers - David Fitzgerald (Clare), Donal Og Cusack (Cork), Damien Fitzhenry (Wexford). Defenders - Pat Mulcahy (Cork), Diarmuid O'Sullivan (Cork), Brian Murphy (Cork), John Gardiner (Cork), Seán Óg Ó hAilpín (Cork), Ollie Canning (Galway), Derick Hardiman (Galway), David Collins (Galway), Tony Og Regan (Galway), Richie Mullally (Kilkenny), Noel Hickey (Kilkenny), Brian Lohan (Clare), Sean McMahon (Clare), Gerry Quinn (Clare), Diarmuid Fitzgerald (Tipperary), Peter Lawlor (Limerick), Tony Browne (Waterford), Darragh Ryan (Wexford).
