Kilkenny SHC: 1-11 for Reid as Shefflin's Ballyhale advance

TJ Reid registered 1-11 as Henry Shefflin's Ballyhale advanced to the Kilkenny SHC quarter-finals at the expense of Ballyragget this afternoon.

The 2015 Hurler of the Year led the way for the Shamrocks up front and his goal rounded off the scoring in a comfortable 3-22 to 1-12 victory at St Johns Park. He was ably assisted by fellow Kilkenny senior Colin Fennelly and young guns Eoin Cody, Evan Shefflin and Adrian Mullen. Kevin Kelly scored 1-5 for last year's intermediate champions.

First-half goals courtesy of John Walsh and Oisin Knox proved crucial for Mullinavat in their 2-14 to 0-16 first round win over Rower-Inistioge in Thomastown.

Elsewhere, Clara overcame Danesfort by 3-10 to 1-14 while the other first round/relegation semi-final which was played yesterday, finished in a draw, Erins Own 2-15, Carrickshock 1-18.

Meanwhile, James Stephens pipped city rivals O'Loughlin Gaels in the SHL final, 1-17 to 1-16 and Dicksboro beat Bennettsbridge in the SHL Shield final, 2-24 to 2-17. Both games took place yesterday.
