Dr Crokes GAA club has announced the sad news that young club supporter Amy O'Connor has passed away following a brave fight with cancer.

Gaelic football supporters will remember the touching moment when 10-year-old Amy helped captain Johnny Buckley lift the Andy Merrigan Cup following the Killarney club's All-Ireland triumph last year.

Daughter of Brendan and Triona O'Connor, Amy was a talented underage player with Crokes and with Killarney Celtic before she became ill.

Dr Crokes issued the following statement this morning: "The Dr Crokes Club sadly announces that we have received the following message from the family of our brave young member Amy O Connor.

"'Our beautiful daughter Amy passed away peacefully in the early hours of this morning. We are truly devastated. Amy O Connor 2007-2018 RIP'.

"May the Lord have mercy on her young soul."
