Westmeath SHC final: Raharney's second-half comeback stuns holders

October 23, 2016

The celebrations begin for Raharney at Cusack Park Mullingar

Raharney are Westmeath senior hurling kingpins for the 13th time after defeating holders Clonkill by 2-18 to 1-13 in Mullingar today.

Wind advantage was instrumental as the winners overturned an eight point half-time deficit to get their hands on the Examiner Cup.

Goals from Joey Boyle and James Goonery were the highlights of a magnificent second-half comeback.

Niall Mitchell's 19th minute goal had helped establish a 1-7 to 0-2 interval lead for the defending champions but they wilted when Raharney applied the pressure after the restart.
