Kilkenny under-21 manager Eddie Brennan has stressed that the Walsh Cup is a great stepping stone for his young guns.

The Cats have opted to play their under-21 side in the early season competition, losing their opening game to DIT, while they play Offaly on Sunday.

And Brennan stressed to the Kilkenny People that the Walsh Cup was the ideal place for his young guns to display their skills and put their names out there.

"Young players can get themselves noticed, really show what they have to offer," stated Brennan. "My first step into the senior inter-county game was in the Oireachtas in 1999.

"Some might think a game like that in January means nothing, but it could be where a player makes a statement of intent."
