Sean Og O Ceallachain, the Voice of the GAA
Sean, who was 89 last May, was born in Limerick, moved to Dublin at a young age and went on to represent the Sky Blues in both codes, although more noted as a hurler.
He lined out in both hurling and gaelic football with the Eoghan Ruadh club and represented Dublin in the 1940s and 50s.
He scored a goal in Dublin's defeat to Waterford in the 1948 All-Ireland hurling final and was also a referee of note and took charge of the 1952 All-Ireland MHC final.
After helping his father for some years with the programme, in 1953 he commenced his Sunday night slot Gaelic Sports Results with RTE.
Starting with the words Go mBeannai Dia Diobh Go Leir, Sean's programme ran for all of 58 years, until his retirement in 2011. Such longevity placed Gaelic Sports Results amongst the Guinness Book of Records. It was hugely popular with Irish people the world over.
Sean Og also wrote a number of books on GAA matters, including 'Giants of Gaelic Football: All-Time Greats', 'The Dubs', 'Tall Tales and Banter' and 'Sean Og: His Own Story', and presented GAA related pieces for RTE
