We are sad to report the death of Longford great Bobby Burns

Longford assembled their greatest ever team during the mid to late sixties. The midlanders won the NFL title in 1966, beating the great Galway three in a row side in the final.

They also clinched the Leinster title in 1968, overcoming Laois in the decider before a great comeback just fell short of the Kerry effort in a thrilling All Ireland semi final.

Longfords greatest selection and many people rate Bobby Burns as the greatest of this bunch. Operating from the full forward spot he led his attack with style and accuracy.

Bobby also represented Leinster in the Railway Cup and played his club football with St. Marys of Granard. A successful businessman, living in Kildare he had been sick for a spell. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
