Leinster club SFC: Killoe's winning run continues

October 29, 2012
Killoe Young Emmets (Longford) 2-7
St Anne's (Wexford) 2-4

A brilliant Sean McCormack goal midway through the second half proved decisive as Killoe Young Emmets defeated St. Anne's of Wexford at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park to set up an AIB Leinster club SFC quarter-final showdown with Navan O'Mahony's in two weeks' time.

Just a week after they had seen off Longford Slashers after a replay and extra-time to secure their first Connolly Cup since 1995, Killoe showed that they still have plenty in the tank by overcoming their fresher opponents. Favoured by the wind and rain in the first half, they led by 1-4 to 0-3 at the break thanks to midfielder Paddy Thompson's 26th minute goal.

The home side tightened their grip on proceedings when McCormack (free) and Daniel Mimnagh added points on the restart, but St. Anne's got themselves back into contention in the 40th minute when substitute Francis Simpson finished Redmond Barry's centre to the net.

The Wexford champions drew level four minutes later when Padraig McCormack put through his own net after the ball had rebounded off him. But Killoe refused to panic and never looked back after county star Sean McCormack's superb strike put them back in the driving seat.
