Louth SFC final: Pat's are champions again

October 08, 2012

St Pats celebrate their Louth SFC win.
St Patrick's 1-13
Dreadnots 0-7

Holders St. Patrick's collected their fifth Joe Ward Cup in 10 years following a comfortable victory over final debutants Dreadnots in Drogheda.

The Lordship men signalled their intent by racing into a five-point lead. Dreadnots, who had to wait until the 22nd minute for their opening score, reduced the gap to two points before they were rocked back on their heels in the second minute of injury-time when Aidan McCann grabbed the only goal after Dreadnots 'keeper Kenneth Shevlin failed to hold Paddy Keenan's initial shot.

Trailing by 0-4 to 1-7 at the break, the seasiders resumed with a point from Paraic Smith, but then missed a great goal chance when Pat Lynch dragged his shot wide. Following that let-off, the experience of Pat's told as they pulled away for a nine-point victory.
