McEniff takes up Louth selector role

November 04, 2011

Brian McNiff celebrates Louth Div 3 NFL success at Croke Park with Gerry Cumiskey (selector).
Donegal legend Brian McEniff has strengthened his links with Louth by becoming a selector under senior team manager Peter Fitzpatrick.

This past season saw McEniff serve in an advisory capacity for the Wee County ahead of their Leinster SFC opener against Carlow. But Fitzpatrick has now convinced the former All-Ireland winning manager to come on board as a selector for 2012.

McEniff will take the place of former Armagh player Martin McQuillan, who stepped down from Fitzpatrick's backroom team at the end of the season, while St Patrick's clubman Gerry Cumiskey is set to remain on in his role with the team.

There was further good news for Louth supporters this week in that both Mark Brennan and Pepe Smith are set to be available for their O'Byrne Cup campaign at the start of next season.

"It's great to have Mark and Pepe back with us and their return certainly strengthens our selection options for 2012," Cumiskey told the Irish Examiner.

"Mark played a few league matches for us this year, but his injury kept coming back at him, so he never really got an extended run in the team. Eventually, he had all sorts of scans and that helped the medical people to get to the bottom of his problem."
