Meyler is new Kerry hurling boss

December 03, 2009

Former Wexford hurling manager John Meyler
John Meyler was last night ratified as Kerry's new hurling manager in succession to Mossie Carroll. It is Meyler's first senior inter-county post since he was forced to step down as Wexford manager following a players' coup against him last year. Like his football counterpart Jack O'Connor, it is Meyler's 'second coming' as manager, having previously taken charge of the Kingdom hurlers in the 1990s. The Cork-based Wexford native is already familiar with many of his new charges after leading the Kerry under 21s to an All-Ireland 'B' title this past season. Ballyduff's John Hennessy will be one of his selectors, with a second to be named later. Joe O'Connor will train the team and the appointments are for two years. Meanwhile, newly-appointed Kerry under 21 football manager John Kennedy has completed his backroom team. His selectors will be former All-Ireland senior medal winner Tom Prendergast and ex-All-Ireland minor and under 21 medallist Liam Brosnan. The team will be trained by Gary McGrath.
