McGoldrick to miss start of league

October 22, 2008
Derry defender Michael McGoldrick will miss the early rounds of the county's National Football League defence after departing for Australia. McGoldrick has only played a limited role for the Oak Leafers over the last three years due to hamstring complaints, but new manager Damien Cassidy believes he will be fit to return next year. "He was injured for a fair part of the season," Cassidy said. "He has been carrying some injury that was difficult to get to the bottom of. They got to the bottom of it around August time. He went to one of the assessment centres in Lilleshall. "When I was appointed, he was literally going to next day. I will get a chat with him and see what he is doing in four months' time. If he is not available, he is not available. I want people who want to play for Derry." Star forward Paddy Bradley is remaining on in Australia after the International Rules series, but is due to return home in mid-January.
