Mitchell very disappointed in defeat
July 25, 2008
While he ponders his future in change of the county hurlers, manager John Mitchell was a disappointed man last Saturday following the two-point loss to Mayo and while on balance he said that his team did not deserve to win, there were chances available that could have enabled Wicklow to scramble a win.
"It is very disappointing when you lose a game by a narrow margin but I must say on balance we did not deserve to win either. We got the chance to win twice, first in normal time and again in extra-time, but we did not take advantage of either opportunity," Mitchell said. Only three players earned any sort of praise from the manager, Ronan Keddy, Stephen Kelly and Geoffrey Bermingham. "The majority of our players did not show to their potential. None of our key players played well. We were dropping a lot of ball, spilling a lot of possession to our opponents and playing our opponents from behind."
According to Mitchell, while Mayo are not a great team by any means they did show better organization and they played with fire and spirit.
