Will Mitchell stay?
July 25, 2008
A few weeks ago the question in Wicklow sporting circles was whether Mick O'Dwyer was prepared to remain with the county and now the focus turns to John Mitchell who might feel that he has taken the hurlers as far as he can.
The former county goalie who has been in charge of the team for two years is said to be contemplating his position in the wake of the team's exit from the Christy Ring Cup competition on Saturday evening having suffered an extra-time defeat to Mayo. Following the game, Mitchell revealed that he would be sitting down with GAA officials to review the progress that has been made over the time of his tenure and to discuss whether he wishes to remain on in this demanding job.
During this period in charge the team beat Laois in 2007 and he succeeded in bringing the team to the Division 2 league final. He would have been most disappointed in having lost to Mayo last weekend particularly having beaten the holders Westmeath the previous week.
